Justin Cohen

@tradeandfade is a small cap scalper who’s quietly built a serious edge over the past few years. He started trading in 2020 while working in the oilfield, and by October 2022, he made the jump to full-time. Like many, the pandemic sparked curiosity, and a few coworkers talking about buying airlines stocks kicked off a deeper dive into trading. He discovered FinTwit, realized the opportunity, and committed.

Trading Style

He primarily trades small caps using classic chart patterns—flags, wedges, channels—and combines them with tape reading and Level 2 to nail entries and exits. This is someone who’s spent years watching price action develop and reacting in real time. That kind of screen time adds up, and it shows in how intuitive his trading has become.

It’s a focused stack built for speed, clarity, and zero fluff.

Daily Routine

He’s typically at the desk 45–60 minutes before the open. Most of that time is spent building a watchlist, marking up charts, and mentally resetting. No real interest in trading premarket. After the bell, he trades through the session but rarely sticks around for after-hours. At night, he returns to the desk for a structured review process—filling out a daily report card, prepping for the next session, and getting in some continuing education.

Screen Breaks & Discipline

Like most scalpers, stepping away from the screens can be tough—especially on volatile days. But he’s learned to recognize when the market’s dry and when it’s time to walk. On slow days, he steps out guilt-free. On hot days, if he’s executed well early, he’s comfortable calling it.

Money Mindset

Raised in a modest household, he’s carried over a relatively minimal lifestyle into his trading career. That said, he enjoys the freedom that comes with trading profits—spending where it matters without needing to check price tags. He invests and saves aggressively, putting aside more than half of his pre-tax earnings. The goal is long-term security, knowing full well that markets change and adaptability is everything.

Why He’s Featured

What stands out most is the structure. Justin treats trading like a real profession—systemized, consistent, and deliberate. From prep to execution to review, everything is intentional and repeatable.

But beyond just the trading, he seems like a solid dude who’s got life mostly figured out. He put in serious work in the oil fields before making the jump to trading full-time, and now he’s balancing that with being a newly married family man. That kind of balance—between ambition and real life—is something I’m personally trying to take more seriously as I hit my late 20s. Finding someone I actually want to build with. He’s a great example of someone doing both well.
